I am a LARP promoter for the SoCal region; we also make trips up to the NorCal region for weekend events up there.

Currently, there are several Live Combat LARPs that would be roughly a two hour drive from you; Amtgard - Nazzeroc is based in San Diego; Dark Ages runs weekend events in San Juan Capistrano area; IFGS runs day events in Orange County; Eidolon runs weekend events in the Los Angeles area.

There are new things coming on line as well; Epic Adventures is another weekend-style world course game in Orange County; Xatrian Crux is a Live Combat multi-genre "Dance Club" LARP running near Pasadena in September; Meridian is a UK -based medieval "steampunk" game that is aimed at bringing in players by the thousands (as like The Gathering, Renewal, Maelstrom from the UK)..
