I live in Alabama, halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL. I recently came across SOLAR online and am thinking about playing :)
I have been in the SCA for a couple of years, so I am used to combat, I was just wondering if SOLAR combat is as engaging as SCA cobat. I am sure it is not as physical, Foam not rattan, otherwise how is it.
It appears the Atlanta group is fairly active, how good is the group as far as the social aspect?
If you dont want to post here, potetial to get flamed or whatever, E-Mail me directly.

Re: SOLAR info request
Sun, March 6, 2005 - 5:51 PMHey Roger!
I could tell you plenty about the game. I've been playing for about 6 years now and I'm still loving it. The stories are great, the player base is pretty steady and always increasing and full of great people. The owner of the game, Scott Neely, is a great guy and very involved. SOLAR does have a Plot comittee that gives the players story hooks and goals to accomplish. Some people like that aspect of LARPS, some don't. As a matter-of-fact, my boyfriend, Paul Troy, will be the Head of Plot for the 2005 season.
The first event of the season will be coming up in a couple of weeks. Check out the schedule on the website if you haven't already. We love new players and would certainly enjoy having you out there. Everyone's really friendly and always willing to help someone learn the game system.
As far as combat goes, it is not as heavy as SCA's. We do use foam weapons and all weapons must pass a safety check before a player may use them every event. Most players do not wear real combat armor, some wear light armor, but that is why we use foam weapons. We use a hit-point system, as well.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to post on the OOP Fun Forum and I'm sure you'll get many responses to your questions.
Hope to see you there!
~Jacque L.

Hope to see you there.
